The Story
This project thoughtfully reimagined a charming double-fronted California Bungalow to significantly enhance the flow, overall functionality, and family-focused living experience, all while creating a home filled with delightful and unexpected surprises. Working closely alongside our client, we designed a contemporary kitchen, living, and dining extension characterised by a striking, asymmetrical roofline that rises dramatically to 4.7 meters high. This bold architectural feature creates a lofty, impressive effect that truly sets the home apart from others in the neighborhood.
Our client, Anita, was eager to preserve some of the original architectural elements and historic charm of the bungalow while ensuring a seamless transition to the sleek, modern extension. To achieve this balance, we retained the period features in the front half of the original home and thoughtfully modernised the rear spaces to suit contemporary living needs. Anita’s vision was for the house to be filled with unexpected surprises that reveal themselves as you move through the different areas.
“The soaring raked ceiling and full-height windows in the open-plan area have an incredible impact on everyone who walks into the space, flooding the room with light and warmth. The curved architectural features throughout the house then gently soften these expansive volumes” -Anita Woods.
